‘Old-timers’ Re-union Roll of Honour:

Amongst those attending the re-union of drivers from the past were:

Bill Barrett: Started racing 1962 on a Trokart/JLO, Raced at Shenington 1964 British Champs on a Twin MC8 powered Alley Cat.

Mark Steeds: Joined Shenington in 1960.  Attended the World Championship meeting at Shenington in 1961. Helped the British team in the sixties to 4th, 3rd and 3rd in the World Championships.  Was a works driver for the German Taifun kart and Italian Komet engines.  Raced against the likes of Alain Prost and Riccardo Patrese.  Won the Shenington 6 Hours in 1973 with Owen Jones.

Martin Hines: Member of the British team in Juniors.  Multiple European and World Champion in 250 Superkarts.  Boss of Zip Kart.

Richard Wilcox: Started junior racing in 1968, 4th in Junior British Champs at Ryehouse 1971.  Raced in the Junior World Champs in Denmark in 1972 and Ryehouse 1974.  Moved onto seniors, 100 International in the British team.

Tony Keele: Brother of the famous Roger Keele.  Their Dad made the eponymous karts.  Tony raced himself from 1985 to 1995.   Isle of Man GP 1st twice, 2nd once. 

Stuart Clennell: Raced Villiers and Bultaco from 1965 to 1969.

Peter Burgess: Started in 1966, retired in 1975.  Won the 9 Hours in 1969 and mainly raced long circuit on ‘specials’.

Dave Cullimore: Raced 1970 to 1982, always a Shenington member.  Won the World Cup in 1974.  Raced long circuit at Crystal Palace, Denmark, Sweden, South Africa.  British Short Circuit champion 1977.

Bob Phair: Raced 1972 – 1985, initially 210’s then 250 International.  During 1978 raced in South Africa, Denmark and Sweden on long circuit. 

Ken Glendinning: Raced from 1959 to 1981 using Ruskat, Trokart, Techno, Voodoos, Zips and Blowkarts.  2nd at the Shenington 6 hours in 1967 on a Voodoo.  Competed in the British Champs at Shenington in 1964.

Chris Hodgetts: Started in April 1961, winning the first ever race at Chasewater.  Past chairman of Shenington.  Twice British Touring Car champion.

Carolynn Hoy: As Carolynn Grant-Sale started racing in 1978 with a Barlotti/Montessa.  Went long circuit in 1980 and raced with the Gartmore team in 1981, 2nd in the British Champs in 1982 with the Zip Hermetite team and 6th in the World Champs in 1984.  3rd in the ITV World of Sports series in 1983 and 1984.  Retired from karting, still with Zip Hermetite, in 1988.

Reg Gange: Started in 1963, Junior British team member.  210 British Champion 1971, World Cup Champion 1973 and 1981, European Champion 1984, British Kart Grand Prix winner 1982, retired in 1987.

Bob Reynolds: Raced Villiers from 1964 – 1969, then Zip Bultaco 1969 – 1975.  Raced in all the 9 Hours held.

Wyatt Stanley: Raced at Shenington from mid-sixties to late seventies on Barlotti/Suzuki and Zip/Bultaco.

Roger Norman: Started in 1962, retired in 1966 when minimum weight limits came in.  Returned to historic racing in 1983 through to date.

George Thornhill: After a year in Speedway in 1971, came to historic kart racing in 1998.

Tony Wilkins: Has raced continuously at Shenington from the very first race in 1959 through to date, now he races in the 210 Challenge.

John Angus: Began racing in 1962 on a Trokart/Clinton, then a Fastakart/McCulloch.  Moved onto Zip/250 Montessa and Zip / Yamaha.  Northumbrian Kart Club champion 1965/66/67.  Competed in France in 1966, Sweden in 1970 and Denmark in 1974 and 1976.  Retired from racing in 1981.

Graham Gostelow: Started racing in 1963 on Trokarts, Clintons and JLO’s with a Bultaco.  Stopped racing in 1979 until restarting in historics in 2003.

Drew Liddle: Only raced once at Shenington.  Started kart racing in 1970 until 1983, on Blow/Montessa, Bulty, home made Druzuci, Zip and used the fist water cooled engined kart.  Raced with 250 Rotax, 125 Zip, raced at Heysham mostly, also Denmark, Le Mans, and all the British long circuits.

Brian Malin: Collector of Buckler karts and cars.  Historic karts from 2002.

John Esser: Started in 1964 with a Trokart, then on Aero, Dale, Zip and Motus with various engines such as Montessa, Ossa, Bultaco.  Was a member of the British team in Sweden in 1970.  Then moved to Formula Ford.

Peter Hilton: Co-designer of the Buckler karts (and cars).  Raced karts at most circuits from the start of karting in the UK.

Roy Ibbotson: Raced 1966 to 1972, mostly at the northern circuits and in the British Champs.

David Ryalls: In 200 Super from 1969 to 1971 at the northern circuits and the British Champs.  Second to Mike Goodwin at the 1970 British Champs at Heysham.

Simon Southall: Shenington member 1971 – 1975.  Raced a Zip / Bultaco.  In 1972 raced in Denmark and South Africa.

Shannon Gassow: Member of South Yorks using Blow / Bultaco and Victors, K200, K250 and Villiers.

Bruce Austin: Worked at Aero Karts from 1960 to 1970, started racing in 1960, retired 1992.  Won the 9 Hours in 1971.

Ken Marr: Raced 250 International, mainly Rowrah and Felton plus Heysham, Long ridge and only once at Shenington. Was 250 Int champ.

Terry Glendinning: Started in 1970, through to 1981, mainly at Felton, Rowrah, Morecambe, Longridge.

Paul Chalmers: 250 International with Bultaco and Yamaha

Mark Steeds: Joined Shenington in 1960 at age 7, raced 1965 – 1976.  I Modified British Champion 1969, British team member 1969-1976.  Fourth in 1970 World 100cc Champs, second equal in 1972.

Sue Wilkins: Former committee member and official

Brian Magee: Raced Class 4 from 1962, Bucklers then his own Dove kart.  Fourth in British Champs about 1965.
