Surely defensive driving is just part of general race craft, you see it at any motorsport event. You see a driver getting a poor exit from the corner and the first thing they do is reduce the chance of getting overtaken by taking the inside line down the straight and into the corner.

Without defensive driving it would take away the point of racing, the main objective of a race is to finish finish first and if you do that without the fastest kart wouldn't that be a skill? If defensive driving was not allowed we would all be doing time trials...
