Couldn't agree more.

That's exactly the reason we went to Honda. At least, with fairly easy, inexpensive "tuning" most of these engines are pretty clsoe performance wise. They are also very reliable and not as susceptible to things "going off" over the weekend (eg. carbs) so you don't need to be run by an expert or a team. Consequently, it puts more of an emphasis on driver ability and chassis set-up rather than the amount of money spent.

Also, the class is not run by kart traders so there's no vested interest.
