MSA tracks - details & approx travel times from Bradford:-
Wombwell, 45mins; Racing 2nd Sunday starts 11.30am, practice Saturday before. Tight fairly short technical circuit; anticlockwise!
Three Sisters (nr Wigan) www.mbkartclub.com 1hr 30; Racing 4th Sunday starts 10.00am; practice Fri & Sat before.Fastest kart track in England alternates 2 circuit layouts. Also run arrive & drive on other dates.
Fulbeck (Lincolnshire) 1hr 45; Racing 4th Sunday; technical 'drivers' circuit
PFI (next field to Fulbeck !) 1hr 45; Racing 1st Sunday. Pretty flat circuit with a 'drivers' bit and a 'scalextric' bit.
Note that travel times are 7.00am on a Sat/Sun morning for a Mondeo pulling a trailer from Kings Park BD2 :)
Wombwell is definitely the nearest (M1 jctn 36) and I believe you can practice on Saturdays without an MSA licence (Frag/SteveC will correct me if I'm wrong).
Go to a few meetings and at more than one of the circuits if you can. Talk to scrutineers and officials especially on Saturdays when it's not so hectic. They have no axe to grind or kit to sell so good impartial advice. You'll get into circuits from far too early o'clock, well before race time.
And if all else fails - you could always give me a shout (urban.tigerATblueyonder.co.uk) my son raced TKM from 2002-2006, we both started as complete novices.
There's also a non MSA track at Tockwith nr York but never been there.
Welcome to the sport, take your time to decide what you want and above all, HAVE FUN.
