Dave is right about the 'tap'..... but that could have been replaced, later.

BUT the cap looks EXACTLY like the stuff we used in the 1960s. I suspect it's too good for the 1950s as we were still VERY crude until the 1960s.

It does LOOK 'gearbox' but the volume looks VERY small so I have my doubts!

However, if you were to ask about the BEAUTIFUL Elan in the picture............
