I don't think that will be legal next year as they have to fitted in line with the disc.

A simple solution is to machine the disc so that it sits a couple of mm inside the rail - been doing that for years. You don't have a problem with pads touching (as they wear) if you match the pad to the outside of the disc (and they should never be left in long enough for them to touch anyway !!)
