If your son is a 'small' 7 year old, you need to get a cadet chassis. I apologise if this seems harsh, but if you attempt to put him in anything else, modified or not, I feel it would be less than sensible.

A cadet kart is designed for kids that age, and as such is generally easier to adjust for fitment to the driver.

You would save yourself a lot of hassle and effort if you go down this route.

Cadet karts need not cost much money in the greater scheme of things. I would suggest you would be able to buy a Honda cadet kart that may not be to full race spec any longer for Ł200-Ł400.

look on the For Sale/Wanted section of this website, and you will either spot what you want or be able to place an advert in the wanted section.

Just so you know, there are 3 main cadet engines in use. Comer (in general the most popular 2 stroke) The WTP (also 2 Stroke) and the Honda cadet (4 stroke with much less maintenace required) As a leisure kart, I would suggest the Honda. Still very quick, but easy to restrict the pace if required until your son is capable of going faster. If you intend to race, the 2 strokes are still the most popular engines.
