The best way to get started (for me anyway) was to get the Simon Murray DVD, teel you all you need to know step by step.
For the one I have done the process was along the lines of:
1) Strip Helmet 2) Mask the interior off make sure nothing is showing. 3) Use scothbrite on the surface (was an unpainted helmet) 4) Start masking, use "fine line 3mm" tape to draw your design (well part of it) 5) Paint, use heat gun to speed drying between layers, 6) At certain points use a clear seal, helps if you make an error and have to redo 7) Keep repeating 4,5,6 until the design is built up. 8) Add several coats of laquer
Took me 6 evenings - the safety sticker I masked.
