Chris like a fellow one man band on a tight budget I would agree that the extra £20 is a bit steep!
I'm not entirely sure it would cost £20 in lecky to boil some coffee and charge your Rotax battery!

Whenever I race I pit together with at least another mate or two and one genny runs 2-3 pits. That is 5ltrs of petrol between us for the weekend.

Most clubs hire the track for the weekend and all the hire costs are limited. Those costs can and do get spread on the racers participating at the event with the surplus going into the club coffers and subsequently used on trophies, prizes etc. At least I'm hoping most of the clubs are run in this manner.

If the club/track has noise abatement issues to fight (many do) then it might just be a smart decision to deploy electricity to the entire paddock and spread the cost amongst everyone.
That would certainly be smart and no one would feel that they're paying over the odds for what they use.

Of course in such circumstance you run the risk of people bringing all manner of un-necessary appliances to run at the track and that would be difficult to police.

At Dunkeswell there was talk of deploying wireless Internet access to the entire paddock. A very smart initiative with very limited costs and great benefits to many. I'm not sure what stage that proposition is at but it certainly would be welcome and wouldn't cost the earth to do. That brings with it live timing in the paddock and other benefits.
