What is the opposition to higher backed seats??
1/ Makes the kart look silly
A. Looks the same when driver in seat
2/ Upsets aerodynamics
A. No change - it's the driver that gets in the way of the air!
3/ Makes transportation more difficult
A. True, some trailers, covers etc, will not fit higher seats if they come above the line of the top of the steering wheel.
Benefits
1/ If high enough, will reduce the risk of whiplash and broken necks in the event of an accident
2/ Higher backs will spread the load of the forces through the back and reduce the likelihood of cracked ribs, bruised backs and other lumbar problem.
On balance they appear to be a good thing, but as always I'm sure there will be other arguments against and resistance to change. Personally I think things should be left alone (except for perhaps younger competitors) and the decision left to the individual. Despite my bruised back from the seat top, I'm happy to retain my current set-up....
