John....

You clearly equate first corner arrival speed as the main cause of the danger (Quote: "This would reduce first corner entry speed dramatically"). If you ARE right, why don't we simply SLOW the karts arrival at the START line......?

Or even MORE dramatically, slow the starts AND move the start line CLOSER to the corner so that we CANNOT build up a head of speed at the first corner.....?

Pesonally, I do NOT think it is just 'speed', it's also feeble CoC work who simply seem to HATE punishing the shunting drivers.......
