yes, it sounds like the iR receiver (dome) has been removed.

I wouldn't have thought that they have done anything else.

This is the type of thing that might work.

You will need soldering equipment and the diode only work one way round.

The cathode is usually denoted by a flat on the dome.

i can open our one and check the orientation for you.

i live in Broxbourne and as it happens, I'm placing an order with the company tomorrow.

None of these things are rocket science to do with a bit of help
