My son raced Jmax at Fulbeck last Sun.
We are both 100% new to karting this year (both still on novice plates!)and this is the first warm day we had, plus first time at Fulbeck.
I strugled to keep the rear tyre temps to a sensible level. Typical temp of the outside rear was 75 - 79 deg C after 8 laps. I understand 65 deg C is the target?
No significant indication of overheating but possibly some slight glossing that indicates we were close to blistering? The times indicated that the tyres had come on early and signed off early.(I know as a novice on a new track the times are understandably up and down, but there was a trend)
We ran full mags ('cos thats what we've got! but I have been reading the other current wheel thread with interest)with tyre pressures coming down to a low of 8.5 psi cold on the used SL8's, which measured 12 psi after the race
So - my question is, what else can I do to keep the tyres down to a decent temp in hot weather without upsetting the front / rear grip balance, which looked Ok?
Thanks.
