.. more than 10 years ago ! Karting mag published results of a test conducted by themselves to resolve the same debate. Basicly they took a top driver and kart ( FA i think)and varied the amount of rotating mass by progressively adding more and more cast brake rotors to the axle but keeping the overall weight constant by removing lead from the chassis. Same driver, same tyres(& wheels) , same circuit, same weather conditions. Tests were double checked and analysed in detail. Despite increasing the rotating mass by 10kg ( 6 extra brake rotors i believe was all they could fit on the axle !)..... the end result was that ...there was no measurable change in lap times .
