Start again from the beginning, take the tyre off, clean the rim of the wheel, clean the bead of the tyre, re-fit and make sure the tyre is resting evenly on the rim before applying the airgun.

Some compound tyres are harder to fit than others, particularly if you don't have a compressor! But there is a solution: petrol stations have eir compressors, some for free, some for a 20p charge. just take it there and blow it up.

If that doesn't work, put it in the boot and when you pass the first tyre fitter pop in and ask the same question as you did here, with tyre/wheel in hand.
