When they're warm they flex a little bit more so it makes it easy to fit/remove them. You'll see what I mean when we come to winter racing and you'll try to fit/remove them at the trackside!
Just stick them in the sun for a minute or so (cause we're in the summer), in the winter we stick them in front of the blow heater for a few minutes, just to soften them up.
Paste/soapy-water is only applied to the bead (and the rim if you want) it allows the rim to slip in the tyre a little bit quicker! And to make and initial seal with the bead when you first blow them. I use wet wipes, simply because I have them in the toolbox and can't be asked to carry yet another tub of paste.
