If you like a bit of a challenge and are patient it is quite an easy DIY job to replace the battery. Take the transponder apart, 4 screws, and then CAREFULLY remove the hard polyurethane stuff that covers the battery with a screwdriver. Just remove the stuff around the battery and try not to disturb the rest of it. You do require a degree of PATIENCE to do this! When you can remove the battery leaving a short length of their connecting wires you will be able to solder in a new battery. I have forgotten the exact battery you require, it is not AA size but is very similar. You need to buy one with tags and will find them readily available on the internet at a cost of about £3. I found it easier to solder a couple of leads onto the battery and then join these to the leads I had exposed in the transponder, there are loads of good soldering articles on the net. It would probably be smart to refill the interior of the transponder with some inert waterproof sealant. I could not decide what to use and so didn't bother and it works just fine come rain or shine.
