But tell me, what does MSA 2009 approved mean in isolation?

That it was first approved in 2009 by the MSA.

Or it is approved only for 2009.

As a newbie, I assumed that a helmet wouldn't have been advertised as being ok for JUST one year!? Hardly a strong unique selling point.

I would say that each have equal meaning from the LACK of information in the description and that is my problem.
