"Scrutineers are being requested to ensure the front fairings are in pristine condition and certainly not deformed in any way otherwise they must be rejected. The MSA was requested to put out a statement on their findings."

The obvious question can be asked in two ways:

1. Why is the cadet fairing situation considered less dangerous than the chassis protector one?

2. Why cannot chassis protectors be inspected with a similar throughness?

At the Buckmore Rotax Super 1 meeting 2009 an announcement was made prior to racing that chassis protectors would need to be removed for racing and this would be inspected at scrutineering. Several mechanics/competitors refused to do this on the basis that racing without protectors would soon destroy their chassis. Soon after this a quick dash up the road to Dartford yielded an emergency supply of new-type protectors, which are formed out of one steel piece with no welds. Since then this has been a requirement by club scrutineers.

This yields two further questions:

3. What has suddenly made the current (new) chassis protector unfit for use?

4. What alternative has been proposed?

One thing is for certain - without any chassis protection there are some circuits at which you will need a new chassis for the Final.

Anyone who doubts this should either give it a try or go straight back to the Mother ship.......
