I joined this thread with a sarcastic comment. Silly me! I should have realized that with so many experts and knowlegeable people out there I should have kept my views to myself and made no comment at all. I am terribly sorry to have stepped on so many sensitive toes.
By the way, I have followed Motor sport since my son became an addict in 1985. (A motor sport addict, to avoid any misinterpretation). Yes I have noticed the 'professional' use of curbs and all the various excuses and interpretations of the rules. My point being that the curb is there for a reason. It might be there to extend the circuit by making more room at a particular corner or straight mainly, I believe, to avoid contact between vehicles.
We are supposed to be discussing curb use in karting not F1. Tell me if you have found any F1 curb which is not smooth, and rideable with two wheels. Bottoming out on a raised curb is to be avoided of course.
Some of the curbs I have seen at different kart circuits are 'stepped', 'dogtoothed' as well as 'raised' and 'smooth'. Many track notes advise on the type of curb. Skillful drivers will know which curbs can be used and which are to be avoided. Mostly it is about common sense.
Bending the rules has got this country into the mess we are in. Be it Politicians or Bankers or even karters. A bit more common sense might solve a lot of problems. But like me there is always someone who knows better. Have a nice day.
