Assuming those who know their metalurgy are correct.... then it is ONLY the diameter and wall thickness which controls any significant level of difference in the stiffness! The material, apparently, makes damned-all difference simply because they are all steel and there are only fractional differences of stiffness between the various types of steel.

That shocked me when I was told that, too!

As I said, I don't know that from my own knowledge but I know what the karting metalurgists here have told us on this site, before!
