The TKM regs say you can use up to a 50mm axle. So you can use 30, 40 or 50mm. Current 30mm axles are available in a variety of hardnesses of hollow construction and also solid in a variety of hardnesses. You can complement this with different size hubs too.
The diameter of the axle is not directly related to the stiffness.
As far as I'm aware, there is no standard for defining hard, medium and soft axles so I only ever think of them in relative terms. Can anyone correct me on this?
