Not sure if the welded ones are officially banned but they weren't allowed at S1 Rotax from round 3 onwards. Also scrutineers at other tracks were asking people to change them to the newer one-piece type after that.
I hope this is going to be sensibly handled - any new design needs to be efficient and reasonably priced. There's not much point in banning them for racing if people use them on practice days, which can't be policed.
