Hi have been meaning to post this for a day or two now
For about a year now I have watched this forum, although never felt the need to sign-up and comment, until today.
I am a self confessed Motorsport geek doing TV at Leeds and therefore watched the various discussions regarding the new for 2010 TV coverage with interest, infact I really wanted to get involved in the filming.

What did people think of the first TV programme for S1 in 8 years (from what I can gather)? Heres what I think – I can submit this as a critic for uni too!:

Competitors were charged a lot of money to pay for what was essentially something that could have been done by a 1st year at Uni for no cost at all.
Motors have come a long way with Bandwith over the last year or two and therefore you cant get away with such dreadful picture quality, compared to the adverts, it looked like it had been filmed on Betacam (the cameras used in the 80’s). At least 2-3 of the cameramen didn’t use their Iris control at all meaning the shots burnt out (looked too white) and seemed to have no direction at all. I am guessing the cameras used were too light (perhaps they were handy cams), the panning was jolty and shaky which tends to happen with cheap tripods and light cameras. On a positive the cameramen, like michaelg36 says, were able to pan with the karts, which can be tricky
The Camera positions seemed odd; I liked the low camera with the Stingray RV signs behind, but the one that appeared after Part 1 almost looked like a snails eye view. But the bizarreness of the camera placement was accentuated by the dreadful edit. We are taught that the pictures should tell a story without voice-over, I had no idea what was going on in any of the races, I didn’t even know where the start finish line was, let alone why we were seeing a particular shot. The commentator kept apologizing for missing passes, while we were just on board looking at nothing, why did we miss the passes, the all the karts had onboards on, so even if the track cams missed it, cant we see it on board? As for the shot of the dog for ?10sec? I want to see the racing!
Did anyone notice the sound issues? Again the commentator apologized regarding the audio on the last 2 interviews (what happened to the 3rd one?). Did he not notice the rest of the show? Even from the sting for the sponsor, the sounds was hugely distorted, especially when the commentator raised his voice. And then when the adverts came it became clear it was actually LOWER than the level of the adverts. So it was distorting because it had been recorded too loud but then had been mixdown too low. That is almost a rookie error.
I don’t want to end this on a negative, The graphics were good, better than most on MotorsTV, The titles were cool too, except they needed to end a little quicker into the presenter. And although the result Graphic was nearly unreadable on my 17’ TV it was cool that they floated about – Sadly they were all Final Cut Pro templates so reflect nothing on the editor himself. Sam the presenter was good, hot and asked mainly the right things in the right way although black clothing is a big no no as you cant see body shape. The commentator did a great job to try and decipher what on earth the editor (Alan?) was intending although there were some very dodgy puns. ‘Game-over? Control-Alt-Delete,’ huh?
So overall, did it represent the same value of the increased entry fee? In my opinion, you could get a better job from a bunch of students for free, so no! That first programme gave off such a feel of amateurism, it was as though it was just a bunch of mates and their sons playing about with their handycams.
To compare it to Kartmasters (made by someone else I am assuming and the only Karting programme I can remember last year) The Graphics were much better but that was about it……… oh and that reminds me, the winner of the race seems to get 100 points but about 2nd and 3rd, each class seemed to have different values for second and third on the Graphics, or am I missing something?

So back to the reason I signed up, Alan threw lots of remark about being Libel to BenConsty, and while I thought it was Ben being a d*ck, I now see that his comments about not delivering, however damaging to his image, were totally justified because that programme was, well, ugly.

I figured that Karting would raise its profile by being on TV so regularly across Europe, but now I am not so sure, If it continues like this it will do serious damage to its image, I mean it looked worse than that Scottish Motor Racing programme.
