In answer to your earlier questions, as I don't think one or two are really looking at it from your 'broadcast industry view', he said it was going to be shot on Sony XDCam HD, although as he mentioned the cost of media cards limiting proceedings to the 2nd final and the limitations 48min show, it would be pointless to shoot more, I think he's used Sony EX1s most or perhaps EX3s, as if it was XDcamHD it would optical disk, and time would not be limited, time to edit it down in post however would be more time he has not got. I reckon 4 EX cameras in total, one doubling up to do interviews in pit lane. Also using Final Cut a Mac Pro will probably only handle about 6 or 7 streams tops, and he was talking 2 or 3 Go Pro streams, in the multiclip sequences he was talking about.

The HD part seems initially like a dead end to me, okay for a higher quality of on line video, it’s a good starting point, but he also said he is not supplying on Blu-Ray, straight away (Mac problematic relationship to Blu Ray), nor is he adding anything to the program for souvenir standard def. dvd, of the program, although in that HD medium he has more flexible options on output down the road, but makes no difference to the karters, beyond perhaps a better quality of optics in the cameras. Tape based Sony Z1/5's could probably have turned out as good footage in HDV, but tape is a slow workflow and he has an ambitious schedule. Although with so little racing on screen due to overly long and elaborate graphics (although at least he can't be criticised 'for where's my son?' even if they don't appear in race footage) he might have been better going another way than multiclip.

Once again, there is little to time add more even if he wanted to, furthermore I suspect he is cameraman, editor, commentator, and all of post, you can't knock him for using FCP templates, any extras would surely be coming out of his end/profit, and this his living. Something you might appreciate out of the classroom, this isn't art, this is business/commerce, you do enough to satisfy the client (thats Super1 by the way).

Not sure about critique of the interviewing, most of your student presenters wear dark or black, it is necessary to have good lighting with black, but necessarily a no no. As to the interviewer they should not asked closed question like 'are you happy with the win today?' What do you expect to get back?! Yes/No or the question spoken back to you, "Yes I am happy with the win today." What have we learned? Nothing, better to open questions How What Where When Why, that might illicit something interesting or get a flavour of personality or insight on a subject.
