From HappyWheels77 comments it sounds as if this could have some benefit for practice and extending use of tyres.
If you decide to go down this path it would probably be a good idea to have a aspare set of rims just used for tyres treated with softener. that should ensure that no residue gets onto rims used on a MSA race day. Although the use of sniffers is very rare it would not be worth risking your reputation.
The other concern I would have is that the performance of the tyre is altered and your practice will be a bit meaningless. However, if you just want track time at a lower cost then this may be worth a try.
