The bearing housings have a tapped thread. The bolts are through the chassis hangers and into the tapped housing, and there is little thread protruding from the opposite (to the head) side.

I am also like you HappyWheels, I've had mixed results with easyouts, so I'm reluctant to go down that route!

I'll try grinding off just the dished washer to leave the countersink head protruding. Good tip, thanks
