I stripped my brakes after 8 hours use. The hard anodized bores and the stainless steel pistons were in excellent condition. The brake fluid was clear and clean.

Stainless steel pistons reduce the amount of heat transfer into the fluid and o-rings. The hard anodized surface is resistant to abrasion.

If you strip your brakes and find sooty fluid, this is probably from the O-rings burning. If the brake fluid is also a tea colour, this is probably because the fluid is over heating. Any scratches on the piston will allow fluid to leak out. These are warning signs of impending failure. All are avoidable with properly designed brakes.
