They are all the same wall section (4.5mm). For me they probably ARE different materials but have not different enough required properties as QOT suggests. Hardness in my opinion is usually a surface requirement for wear resistance rather than a bending property. For me Titanium would be good as a stiff axle and perhaps EN8 (leaded mild steel) for soft, but Titanium is not permitted. Not really worth re-inventing the wheel, I suppose. The reason I am so interested, is we run a 30mm Tonykart viper. This kart is extremely quick in all conditions, but when we run the kart wider than it's designed width in mid summer (for stability) we end up with what I think is axle whip, causing the kart to be a little unpredictable under heavy braking. In this case, I am not so sure we need a flexible axle but a stiffer one ! I am now looking at the old fashioned solid axle as a viable option. I am going to repeat my test and if it deflects less I will have it ready to go in on grippy conditions. Of course my theory can only be proven when the conditions are right .
