It doesn't look like there are any connections..... becasue there AREN'T any!!

It works by induction. The clue is actually at the other end of that wire..... there are no connections on that end, either: you simply wind it round the plug lead.

Induction is (effectively) when a current if passing through one wire it 'creates' (induces) current in a wire next to it..... almost like being 'in sympathy'. The closer the position, the higher the voltage, the more 'close contact area' (number of 'winds')... then the more current induced.
