I believe you to be correct! It always annoys ME when people use an 'idiom' wrongly. I suppose it's a Malapropism of sorts.

Out of interest, I believe it's: 'fell swoop' becasue the term was taken from Falconry (Hunting with birds) and describes the hunting bird falling, like a stone, from the sky to catch its prey!

I have all but stopped correcting people on such things as I didn't think anyone else cared!
