Rye has always struggled a little with red flags. It's nothing to do with driving standards (although few would deny these have deteriorated countrywide) or the way the club is run, but simply the lack of runoff and fast, tight nature of the circuit.
Strangely, few drivers seem to walk away with anything more than bruises and most seem to continue racing in the next heat/final. I guess it's down to luck whether the driver in the tyres is made of tough stuff or not.
Regarding the large grids, let the drivers run flat out from the last corner and you won't have such a tight field going into T1. 28 karts on the grid is what we should all want and it was never a problem on the past (before the loading up that occurs now).
