I can see that you might doubt that there is still any turning force on the rear of the kart if the steering is dead-ahead.
However, go and watch ANYONE doing substantial 'show-off' do-nuts. What you'll note is that the tail 'hangs out' even through the steering is pointed in the OPPOSITE direction. The car STILL 'pensulums' out at the rear even though the steering angle would REVERESE the swing.
A 'circle slide' can be maintained with full opposite lock. It can also be maintained 'slightly sliding' with full POSITIVE lock. If we can manage it at both extremes, what prevents us from maintaining a slide in the middle with zero lock?
