What I was saying about the steering column being off set was replying to the comment made about turning all the track rods in and then winding out to measure!!!

If you did this and then measured, this would throw everything out. You need to take into consideration 'if' the steerin column is off set!

I do agree that you have to look at when ackerman kicks in, but with doing these simple checks which I said WILL eliminate this and in theory our posts will give the same results!

Do you agree? everyone has their own methods, weather right or wrong. I will honestly say now that I do not trust lasers. The reason why I say this is that there are many different manfacturers who place the lasers in different placed on the stubs and if the lasers are not centralised at 0 degrees in their mountins von stubs or the chrome plating off of the stub is 0.01mm thicker on 1 side than the other (when placed on the stub where they are chromed) then this 0.01mm torerance can give a 0.1mm difference on readings.

I have and always believe in tracking discs and the good old tape measure.

It may sound old fasioned, but I do believe discs do out alot of variables, if you take the time and effort to work in this manner! even with davidmc's post regarding ackermand, the old fashioned tracking discs and tape measue still do the trick!!!

If I could ask you all whos reading this...

How many of you have brought a set of lasers and thought they were 100% bang on, then checked their calibration with 2 other manufacturers sets to make sure their readings were correct to calibrate them?

If your stub is bent over the 20mm area where you lasers are placed this would throw the measurements out, but tracking discs sit over a lets say 600mm area on the stub and would illiminate a stub slightly bent (and you would feel this when you put them on! (unlike lasers).

I hope my rant makes sense!!! probably not, but if you look at tyre guages they all read different readings by 1psi ect, but unless they are calibrated you will never know, are lasers???

come on compair your tyre guage to the bloke next to you in the pits next time you are at the track, I bet your has a different reading (even by 0.5psi)than yours!!!!
