I have had my issues with SYKC in the past and the way the club has been run at times, however i didn't have the spare capacity to do a better job or contribute to assist in doing a better job. Possibly i didn't have the ability either. Every member of the team at SYKC works very hard, if you don't think so sit down with a piece of paper and try and list every job that needs to be done to run an event like this, I'm sure there will be more tasks than you can list and if you are honest there will be a lot more to do than meets the eye.
Without doubt the club has improved tremendously over the last 12 months. I missed most of last year due to other commitments but I'm hoping to be able to attend with some of my team for most of this season, so far as i see it they are doing a good job.
Whilst not every decision made might have suited every competitor this weekend these kind of decisions have to be made. I wish drivers and teams were as quick to examine their own performance as they are as quick to try and blame someone else.
I would also point out that the club managed sunday very well, some of the driving standards in senior max in particular were poor to say the least and yet the program was completed quickly and smoothly. Overtaking can be tricky around this track and so i guess that gives the opportunity for potentially more incidents.
Ultimately though it is the competitors that have the choice as to how they want to drive!! Sadly some drivers feel they must try and win the race on the first corner which actually is the worst way to approach this track as the odds of having a crash are far greater! Quite often the drivers that have used their brain in the heats and the final usually does well.
Wombwell has always been a place to welcome new competitors, having taken many there myself over the years and i honestly believe that the decisions made by the clerks and all the marshals are for the good of the sport and in particular with safety in mind. Sometimes those decisions don't suit everyone me included but again I'm sure they are made without malice and with the facts available at the time. In all sports its easy to make different decisions with the aid of replays etc and how often in other sports can we see competitors and or officials getting things wrong!! We don't have replays and therefore we put the decisions in the hands of an official, if we do that we have to accept that decision. If we don't agree there is a process in place to make that complaint known.
Frag is right if you have a problem go and speak to someone that is involved with the club and give them a chance to do something about it.
In the current financial climate small clubs like SYKC need all the support they can get and that is from everyone that attends the meeting from spectators, competitors, teams and officials. Everybody wants to win of course but its a fact only one person in each class will! It is racing but it should also be enjoyable and really when it comes down to it if a decision doesn't go your way its not the end of the world it is just a decision and really not worth getting so wound up about.
Oh and I'm looking forward to March for another good meeting, Jan and Feb both had some good racing in various classes and i hope it will continue for the rest of the year with regular and new drivers!
