In cadet racing they remove the rear axle seals to reduce the drag placed on the engine and as a result the kart comes out of the corner quicker and the engine revs through the rev range faster.

The machining of the crankshaft is achieving the same thing. With a 2 stroke engine you cannot remove the seals because they are required for the combustion process and also in the fiche the seals much not be modified or removed. In layman’s terms a new crank seal places 1mm of rubber on the crank and prevents the engine spinning up fast. However is you machine the crankshaft so only 0.1mm of rubber touches the crank the engine will now spin up faster. This coupled with machining the crank journals to increase end float will offer faster corner exit and faster rev range throttle response.

Ultimately on lower capacity formulas like Mini Max and Junior Max you could say you will now come out of the slowest corner faster so you can now run lower rear sprockets.
