Company A wants to produce a chassis for X class, so company A buys what it considers to be the best current chassis in the class, strips it down, makes a jig from the original frame, takes measurements, angles and material specs from original frame, reverse engineers the frame, buys components from one of the component manufacturers and hey presto they've built a 'new' chassis. Far fetched? I've seen it with my own eyes.
