Yes I know this old chestnut!!
I have trawelled through the posts earlier in the year to get an answer ref. riding kerbs - what are the MSA rules?
It's a simple question; can one, two or three wheels be on the wrong side of the white line? Clearly 4 is off the track.
Also if kerbs are ridden over and the kart has all 4 wheels off of the ground but at least one two or three are over the track on the track side of the white line is this OK.
This particular rule should be quite clear and not subject to individual club rules or CofC decresion, or a count of how many times it has been done in a single race before a penalty is handed out (otherwise you end up with a situation where drivers will use their 'quota' of kerb riding per race) as those whom ride kerbs could gain over those that don't and it shouldn't left the a guess on the day if it is OK. My view is either one or two wheels should be completly past (as per football - the whole of the ball should be over the whole of the line) and on the wrong side of the white line for it to be deemed cutting the corner either in the air or on the ground. Whatever that means in terms of kart position doesn't matter. Look at every copy of the Karting mag, you will find photos of kerb riding to various extents, if a driver can consistantly drive over kerbs no matter how high and consistantly make it around the circuit without crashing or causing others to crash - what is the issue? To say no wheel should be outside the white line is ridiculous - what point is there in kerbs.
Does anyone have a clear and concise answer?
