Kezz - I doubt if you will get an answer unless someone who works for Sparco or Demon Tweeks sees this and wants to join in.
Must admit that I had never heard of this one until your post so maybe it just never got enough promotion/reviews to generate sales.
My guess would be that it just did not sell enough to justify the shelf space whereas the leatt also sells to motorcross (where I think it is compulsory).
I would be very surprised if it was taken off the market because it was proved to be unsafe - that would probably have made news in karting magazine or on the forums.
Kartshop.com still show it as available on their website so maybe it is used in other countries.
