Mychron 4 is generally better than the Mychron 3 as it 'does more'. In the same way the Mychron 3 is MUCH better than the basic Alfano.

I didn't think you could still buy a new Mychron 3 but AIM still offer them on their web site so they must be available. I thought the 4 had replaced it.... wrong again, Ian!

The Mychron 3 downloads to your PC via a cable. The cable 'comes with' simply FANTASTIC PC software which can tell you much more than you'll ever use! However, it can tell you the basic stuff and you start to use more and more once you've got used to the simple stuff

The 3 can display the ENTIRE race (and, actually, the entire WEEKEND's use) data on screen. I.e., you can re-watch every moment of the rev-counter's display so, for example, if your motor hesitates at 14,500 rpm in heat 3 of the Sunday, you can show your mechanic! No more arguments there!

The 4 downloads the data to a sort of memory stick. That's convenient as you don't have to drag your PC close to the kart to download the data. Balancing your laptop on a side pod while you donwload, in the rain and wind, mud and snow WILL work.... but it increases the stress somewhat!

The basic Alfano has only THE most rudimentary download from it. Most people don't seem to bother. It doesn’t seem to be worth it!

Basically, if all you want is to see the revs while you are driving, the basic Alfano will 'do'. If you want any form of analysis during or AFTER the meeting, the Mychron 3 is STUNNING! (and you SHOULD want to analyse your performance after the race!). If you want the latest and better kit, the 4 is fantastic.

Obviously, this is a personal opinion, only!

I am NOT employed and do not gain ANYTHING from Mychron or AIM or whatever!

Ian
