I don't think you have seen the starts people are complaining about. The types of accidents you are describing are just like the ones we used to see and it was generally easy to spot and deal with the culprits. These days, the whole of one side of the grid (or both) is being pushed all the way to, into and through the first corner.

The first corner at PF is flat. The karts are still accelerating through it so by your reckoning there shouldn't be a problem. With the type of rolling start we have now, the whole grid is being pushed all the way through that corner. If you're the one that isn't nailed to the one in front, you'll come off, collecting others as you go. When the karts can accelerate sooner they spread out more so nobody can load the grid up. Standing starts help in the same way because the karts also aren't bumper to bumper.
