It's a good idea to experiment so you can figure out where to put the seat to get the kart to handle best. I always expect the first seat I put in a new (to me) kart to end up like swiss cheese, but I generally find at least a few tenths by doing so. It makes more difference than anything else you ever do to the kart in my experience.
Patience and eBay is the only way I've found good used seats. I'm still using the OTK seat that came with my Tony Kart while I try to justify the expense of a T11VG - but at least I've got a good idea where it needs to go in the kart now. I think it's on its third set of mounting holes already!
