Hello,

We were in the same position as you. On the heavy side in cadets. What next?

Minimax was a problem as we would struggle on weight in that also and there is no compensation restrictor to even out weights as your driver grows.

Junior TKM looked good as that had weight compensation and what looks like a nice run series.

Junior BLue. Weight compensation restrictors, water cooled IAME engines running standard tillotson carbs. Not sealed, tight controls on engines being standard. MSA championship, O plates, etc. National championship all regions finals.

Easy Kart. Similar engine to Blue bottom end and air cooled top.

We wanted MSA as that is what I have grown up with and I like the idea of tight scrutineering, within reason.

We went for Junior Blue. There have been around 8 drivers registered in the South. Clay, Dunks, Forest Edge, Buckmore and Larkhall this year for the national champs. Engines are cheap to get hold off. Just get them checked by Tabor or others.

Our engines rev out to 16,000 rpm most weekends and really reliable.

We were novices and this year really has brought on my son for all the right reasons. Good crowd of people and NO contact apart from accidental contact. We want a decent weekend with no damage and thats what happens.

The karts are pretty much on MiniMax pace with mostly drivers with a max of two years experience. We have a quick lad come down from the North for the O'plate and showed us we need to pick up a few tenths! like 8 or so. He races Minimax and liked teh blue engine alot better.

It uses pretty much all the parts the X30 does in pumps, radiators etc. There is a progression to Senior Blue with the same kit and a change of carb restrictor.

THere are two engines a Lynx 100cc and a leopard 125cc that some of teh very heavy seniors use. I am enjoying it so much I (at 50 and sturggling to fit in a seat) will be having a go in seniors.

However this is mainly a sport where I get to spanner and the sons can race. (one in Bambinos).

The downsides are that there are very few drivers in the midlands at the moment for the Wigan/Wombwell rounds. The Scottish Blue scene is very strong. We race in the Southern championship.

We will be staying in the class for quite a while as I really do think its the best kept secret in karting.

No 46 Jnr Blue will be at Buckmore this weekend if anyone reading this would like to chat.
