If this is a 50mm axle then I would definitely advise against adding more holes.

You will more than double the chance of the axle failing at the drilled holes, especially if the work is not done to a high standard and could end up causing an accident.

If someone is injured as a consequence of your deliberate negligence, you could end up with a problem.

For the holes to have worn, there must be something inherently wrong with a component that is causing the holes to wear.
