I don't think you can lay all the blame Iame for poor engine development when the starter is ancillary part that is supplied by a third party.

Rotax have used the same style of starter for over ten years and the same problem has been apparent for all of this period..

The problem can be solved for less than 20p of parts if the manufacturer bothered to address the problem.
