Doesn't the ring release once you undo the grub screws and give the ring a tap from one side or the other?

I can't imagine a bearing manufacturer producing such a bearing that wouldn't release the shaft or axle if they were fitted in opposite directions.

It could be that in some commercial applications they could only be fitted that way.
