I prefer a trailer as I am a cheapskate! However, note the different driving laws with trailers:-

1) You (or any other member of the family) may not have a licence that allows you to tow the trailer, depending on size/weight.

2) Maximum speeds are lower, notably 60mph where cars can do 70mph (motorways, dual carriageways etc.) and 50mph where cars can do 60mph (most other open roads)

3) trailers banned from the outside lane of a three (or more) laned road.

Vans are less restricted but cost much more to own and use.
