Do a proper test.

1) Mount the kart on 2 axle stands on the rear axle (one at each end) and 1 stand at the centre of the front bumper hoop.

2) Add 50kgs weight to the front (let's say) right hand wheel and measure the deflection of that wheel (a tape measure will do for this).

3) Now fit a soft seat and re-measure

4) Now fit a stiff seat and re-measure

Let's see if it's a significant change.......

You could change the 'parameters' and see how much weight you need in the 3 examples above to deflect the chassis enough for the weighted-wheel to move to a predetermined deflection point (let's say) e.g. 50mm.

It would be fun to do the same thing but changing the rear axle for softer and stiffer axles instead and see how much more weight you'd need to produce the same amount of change as in the seats-test. It's long been my contention that you would not be able to detect the 'extra' deflection allowed by a soft axle compared to a hard axle.... the axles don't bend anywhere near as much as the chassis.

Definitive 'positive' answers would (possibly) alter my views....

I don't have a floppy 'Rotax' chassis on which to do the test myself. I wonder why......

Ian
