I must be the most hated person in karting. I run a team with an awning and sides plus an XLWB Iveco and I am also a kart clothing retailer. Oh and an ARKS tester and race director at A&D racing as well, if you ban all those aspects of karting then my meagre income disappears and I'm ****ed!

So one at a time:

Team - In the last two years I've brought 5 regular 4-stroke karters into 2-stroke racing. Two of them have asked me to run them as a "team" because their parents are not in a position to act as mechanic themselves, either at home or at the track. Without our "team" they would not be racing, period. The others want to run under the awning because we have a lot of fun and help each other. The awning and van are a welcome haven for them *and any other people who pitch up and want to talk karting*. Come and see us at Clay and Forest, I'll pop the kettle on.

Clothing - I LMFAO when I see people who complain about the cost of kart helmets turning out in bike ones that cost more! Go to eBay and you'll find Snell 2010 helmets for well under Ł100, suits for under Ł50. Jeez, by the time you wear boiler suit, sweater, jeans and T-Shirt you've spent more than on a proper overall!!!!!!!! One thing I like about the MSA is that there is a standard that is the same over the country, there are two different standards at the two IKR sites in easy access of me in Wiltshire.

ARKS - you don't like it? Then don't pay it and go race IKR. It really, really doesn't matter! Or A&D, I don't mind as long as you're karting.

There are truly more people involved in karting than there were when I was a kid. I had a school friend who did Junior Britain. His parents were well-heeled, they had to be. Those of us who weren't couldn't afford karts and racing. Nowadays I'm involved in kids' A&D racing at two centres and you can be taking part in a proper racing championship for Ł36 per month. You couldn't do that in "the good old days". As for saying "it's not proper racing" - horsepoo! There's young boys and girls learning car/kart control, worrying about lap times, driving for points etc etc just the same as at IKR and MSA.

Karting isn't what it used to be, thank God. It's different but still popular.
