A few years ago i competed in a Max endurance series that used the "Kartline" tyre (which seem to have disappeared?) which were Ł55 a set. they were fine , being the same shore and returning the same lap times as a Bridgestone YDS (which incidentally started life in the 80's as the "YBN" and upon which the 100 National class was run which even then, was quicker than max is now with a much lower weight limit and quicker engines). Indoor centres could buy them for Ł39.50. Now these tyres were consistent, manufactured in Europe and if the distributor could sell them for that, then other tyres retailing at Ł130 per set plus, represents nothing other arrant greed. Even today Indoor centres purchase Duro Taiwanese tyres for less than Ł20 per set, so why the great disparity between "rental" and "racing" tyres.

as one sage kart trader of many years standing told me once, "have a look around this paddock; the guys with the BIGGEST most expensive motorhomes are the tyre importers..............
